At Fenceline Brewery in Huxley, owner and head brewer Susan Frantz said she feels similarly unsure and is frustrated with the decision which leaves her unable to open the doors at all due alcohol making up more than 50% of her revenue.
She fears the impact the order will have on businesses that have already had to come back from prior closings and recent storm damage.
It’s another tough, frustrating day for the Iowa brewing community in the affected counties, she said, but “some sort of show must go on.”
Frantz anticipates the order will “disproportionately affect local breweries and brewpubs who weren’t even open that late anyway,” as well as other small businesses, as “it’s going to, unfortunately, be a lot easier to support your big chain restaurants who can serve alcohol inside until 10 p.m.”
